“Sometimes it's important to work for that pot of gold.  But other times it's essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow.” - Douglas Pagels

“Eastside/ Westside”
The recent evening with Senator Nathaniel McFadden was a political, social gathering of who’s who in Maryland politics. It was great seeing former and current state & local officials on hand to support “a little boy from East Baltimore” as he calls himself. The reception was in the newly renovated American Brewery Building with a breathtaking panoramic view of Baltimore from the eastside. “On a clear day” we were able to see the Key Bridge and the 1st Mariner Tower in Canton from the outside terrace. Guests mingling throughout the gorgeous venue included Kweisi Mfume, Paula Johnson Branch, John Douglass, Frank Coakley, Arnold Williams, Danny Henson, James Cassel, Ken Taylor, Toya Wargo, Dr Levi Watkins, Ralph Gilliam, Tiger Davis, President Stephanie Rawlings Blake, Alice Cole, Bernard Young, Milton Mayo, Zatella Giles, Ede Taylor, John Howard, Talmadge Branch, Victor March and Bob Sledgeski.

Who’s who in the legal field turned out in full force to witness Granville Templeton’s swearing in as the new president of the Monumental Bar Association. The Law office of attorney Billy Murphy offered a magnificent view of the city as Chief Judge Robert Bell performed the ceremony. Curator Larry Gibson Esq. provided a history in photos of the bar association including pictures of the founding members. Guest enjoyed viewing photos photo taken in 1976 with young lawyers Kurt Schmoke and Elijah Cummings. The pictures showcased the progression of females in the law field. Guests in attendance where States Attorney Patricia Jessamy, Administrative Judge Marcella Holland, attorneys Stephanie Kinder, Jai Bonner, J Wyndal Gordon, Nicole Gatewood and Judge Miriam Hutchins and Doni Glover of BMORENEWS. October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Living for the Weekend salutes and celebrates the survivors, the warriors and the saints as we continue to advance and progress on the battlefield, loving, supporting and uplifting each other until we’ve “found a cure.”

The death of Councilwoman Paula Johnson Branch’s grandmother Catherine Daugherty at the age of 100 brought back memories of nights I spent as a child at her home with Paula, sitting up till the wee hours sipping tea and learning the wisdom of this fine, gentle woman as she listened to our thoughts, dreams and aspirations.

The ninth Legacy Chase at The Meadows Shawan Downs was the final planned celebration of my month long soiree into my sixth decade.

October is breast cancer awareness month. Make use of this time to do something special with your loved ones.

I was raised to believe that if you didn’t go to church on Sunday, you didn’t do anything else that day--- no movies, parties or playing outside--- you just sat on the porch.
