Cardin Honors Maryland Law Enforcement during National Police Week 2017
WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Ben Cardin (D-Md.) issued the following statement in commemoration of National Peace Officers Memorial Day and National Police Week 2017.
“As law enforcement officers from around the country and around the world gather in our Nation’s Capital for National Police Week and National Peace Officers Memorial Day, we honor the men and women who work within the rule of law to protect and serve our communities. We honor those who sacrifice daily to keep their communities safe and work to increase communication and build essential trust. And we thank all of those officers who are working harder each day to ensure that everyone’s human and civil rights are respected and protected.
“On this solemn day, nearly 400 new names will be inscribed on the National Law Enforcement Officers memorial, including three brave souls from Maryland who were killed in the line of duty in 2016. We honor the memory of Corporal Jacai Colson of Prince George’s County, along with Senior Deputy Patrick Dailey and Deputy First Class Mark Logsdon of the Harford County Sheriff’s Office. The families and communities these men served with distinction continue to mourn their loss.”
