D.C. Fab! Exposed – May 13, 2010

It is graduation season as many college students are getting ready to embark on another chapter of their lives. Congratulations to students at Howard University who graduated this past weekend.

While President Obama was giving a commencement speech at the other HU, Hampton University, in Virginia, the first lady was hosting an afternoon tea in honor of Mother's Day in the White House's East Room. Mrs. Obama shared her thoughts on the importance of celebrating Mother’s Day in her address saying, "That’s really what Mother’s Day is all about: showing our gratitude for all that they do."?

Still, the first couple did celebrate Mother's Day earlier by dining out at KOMI, a Greek and Mediterranean restaurant in Dupont Circle.

The Washington Redskins made their biggest purchase in March by signing running back Larry Johnson to a three-year contract worth $3.5 million. Last week, local celebs gathered to celebrate Johnson coming to the District, after playing with NFL teams in Kansas City and Cincinnati.

Many celebs came out to celebrate with Johnson including, television personality Terrence J, who was in town celebrating his birthday; rappers Wale, J. Cole, and Phil Ade; R&B singer, Paula Campbell, and morning show host Big Tigger.?

Last week, Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton was spotted at the VIP opening of the Social Safeway in Georgetown. Guests enjoyed complimentary Dom Perignon, Cristal and even a Belvedere vodka fountain…all in a supermarket. Sherri Sheppard of “The View” surprised patrons at Busboys & Poets last week when she dined there. She tweeted that it's her favorite restaurant in the District. "[It has] an eclectic, energetic atmosphere, wonderful food and great reading,” she wrote.?

Oklahoma City’s Kevin Durant has been partying all over the city recently and he stopped by The Park at Fourteenth last Thursday as well. Rapper (can I still call him that?) Mims was also spotted there the same night while model Melyssa Ford was seen there Friday night.

If you want to be on the scene this weekend, head to Team Believe's Monte Carlo Night, a benefit for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. On Saturday, May 15, the evening will be hosted by Sugar Ray Leonard at TPC Potomac at Avenel Farm. To purchase a ticket, visit www.believeinacureforcancer.com.
