Was Kim Kardashian’s marriage to Kris Humphries really a sham?

That’s the question on the minds of many after Kardashian, 31, filed for divorce from Humphries, 26, on Oct. 31 after 72 days of marriage.

Kardashian left the U.S. Nov. 1 for a previous engagement in Australia, and appeared on the Australian morning show “Sunrise” Nov. 2 to combat the rumors that she married for money and not love.

“I think what really upsets me most is there have been from the start, so many rumors of money and dollar signs of all these things thrown up in the air, and so much of it not being true,” Kardashian said on the show, according to multiple media reports.

Dodging the question of whether she and the Denver Nuggets basketball player even tried marriage counseling, Kardashian defended her decision to end the short-lived marriage, saying that she wanted to follow her heart.

Kardashian also took her plea online, with “A Message to My Fans.” “First and foremost, I married for love,” Kardashian wrote. “I can’t believe I have to defend this.” She called herself a hopeless romantic who loves with all her heart and soul.

Many tabloids and news sources, however, claimed the opposite. Online celebrity news site TMZ claimed the couple, who were wed Aug. 20, made almost $18 million from showing the wedding as a special on the entertainment network E!.

Via Twitter, Kardashian said Oct. 31 that the reports were “simply not true.”
