Soulful R&B singer Musiq Soulchild salutes some of the music’s greatest artist in his latest music video “Silky Soul,” which has been on heavy rotation on BET’s Centric, Music Choice, and VH-1’s Soul cable stations. In the video, Soulchild gives accolades to several famed soul singers.

“Marvin Gaye is one third of my holy trinity of Donny Hathaway, Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye,” said Musiq Soulchild. “I definitely owe them a whole lot as far as me being who I am musically, lyrically, vocally as an entertainer and performer, everything.”

“Silky Soul” was originally written by Frankie Beverly as a tribute to Marvin Gaye. Gaye not only discovered Frankie Beverly and Maze, but was instrumental in their early success. Video director Parris of GoReela explained that he wanted to blend something old with something new to produce something new and exciting.

“I wanted to do something that would take us to back in the day and try to bring it to life using photographs, styling and props,” said Parriss in a press release.

Musiq Soulchild’s “Silky Soul” is part of a 10-song project on the award-winning CD {Silky Soul Music.} The project, which was produced by, Beverly’s son, Anthony Beverly and Rex Rideout, features an array of modern soul singers including Mary J. Blidge, KEM, Ledisi and Raheem DeVaughn.
