Scouts from around the central Maryland region will join Oct. 6 to mark the 100th anniversary of the Baltimore Area Council with a day of events celebrating the organization’s dedication to character, responsibility, and citizenship.

More than 5,000 Scouts will converge on Oregon Ridge County Park in Cockeysville, Md. to take part in the Rock the Ridge Camporee, including a variety of programs, activities and old-fashioned camping, according to a release by the Baltimore Area Council.

The day will also include displays from the Baltimore County Police Department, the Maryland Defense Force, as well as science, technology, engineering and mathematics activities. Traditional Scouting skills such as archery, orienteering, and sports will also be practiced.

The day will wrap up with a musical performance and a fireworks and laser light show. Many Scouts will camp overnight on the grounds, and will be joined by Baltimore County Police Chief Jim Johnson.

The event begins with an opening ceremony at Oregon Ridge at 8:30 a.m. For full details, visit
