Morgan State University officials announced that U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan will be the featured speaker at their commencement exercises.

The ceremony is scheduled for May 18 on the Baltimore campus.

Morgan officials credited Duncan’s strong advocacy for public education and his support of the role HBCUs play “in producing graduates to strengthen the competitiveness of the United States,”according to the statement.

The 2013 commencement ceremony will feature more than 900 students who will receive their undergraduate and graduate degrees.

The program will begin at 10 a.m. with the graduates’ procession into Morgan’s W.A.C. Hughes Memorial Stadium.
