The Morgan State University women’s basketball team closed out their regular season with a 72-60 victory over visiting the Florida A&M Lady Rattlers in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) game on March 7 at Hill Field House in Baltimore, Md.
With the win, the Lady Bears secured the No. 6 seed in the upcoming MEAC Tournament in Norfolk, Va. Morgan State also finished with a perfect 3-0 mark on its season-ending home stand and further its winning streak to a season-long four games to end the regular season.
Morgan State (12-17 overall, 9-7 MEAC), which entered the contest tied with Florida A&M for sixth-place in the league standings, got a game-high 25 points from senior guard Bianca Jarrett. Jarrett, who was one of four seniors playing in her final home game at Hill Field House, scored 14 points in the second half and shot 7-of-17 from the floor, including five three-pointers.
Fellow senior guard Moneshia Davis scored nine points and had three assists, made a team-high two blocks and recorded a game-high three steals, to give her 163 for her career. Sophomore guard Tracey Carrington came off the bench to score 11 points and had a game-high four assists, while freshman forward Dinah Jones also came off the bench and scored a season-high 10 points on 4-of-8 shooting and pulled down a team-high seven rebounds for the Lady Bears.
Florida A&M (11-18 overall, 8-8 MEAC) closed out their season by dropping five of its last seven games and enters the tournament as a seventh seed. Junior guard Jasmine Grice, who was coming off scoring a career-high 42 points in Monday’s win at Norfolk State, led the Lady Rattlers with a team-high 19 points. Junior guard Kimberly Sparkman finished with 14 points and junior/guard forward Patrice Collie and sophomore center/forward Jamie Foreman each added 11 points in the loss.
Morgan State, which has now defeated Florida A&M in seven of the last eight meetings, improved to 10-32 all-time against the Lady Rattlers.
