Baltimore Ravens receiver Jacoby Jones impressed the world this summer with his dance moves as he appeared on ABC-TV’s “Dancing with the Stars.” But his latest off-the-field move was deemed “unimpressive” by Ravens head coach John Harbaugh.
According to TMZ, Jones was struck over the head with a bottle by a stripper named “Sweat Pea”, causing the Super Bowl champion receiver’s head to bleed. The incident reportedly occurred while Jones was on a party bus in Washington, D.C. with other Ravens players in celebration of his teammate, Bryant McKinnie’s birthday on Sept. 22 following the Ravens victory over the Houston Texans.
TMZ also reported that a fight broke out as others present on the bus tried to retaliate for Jones, but McKinnie stopped the fight. The entertainment news site claims an ambulance was called for Jones after he was hit in the head, but he allegedly refused to go to the hospital.
No one was arrested and Jones—who is currently recovering from a leg injury suffered in the season opener three weeks ago, was present at practice with no signs of injury from the incident.
Harbaugh addressed the news with reporters following the team’s practice on Sept. 23, expressing his disappointment.
“I’m not very impressed, personally, with the report,” Harbaugh said. “It’s not something that we want to be known for. I think it’s not something those guys want to be known for. It’s nothing to be proud of. I’m kind of disappointed in that sense.”
Harbaugh said he discussed the incident with his team. Although he kept most of the details of his discussion with his players private, but shared a bit of what he explained to them.
“What do you want to be known for?” Harbaugh said. “Do you want to be known as a football player or do you want to be known for that?
“My dad, Jack Harbaugh, is here. That was definitely a motto that was enforced in our household-that nothing good happens after midnight. I did reiterate that with the guys today.”
McKinnie’s Reputation for Parties Gone Bad
This is the first time Jones has been in the news for any off-the-field issues, although the same can’t be said for the “birthday boy”, McKinnie. The former Pro Bowl left tackle was charged back in 2005 for disorderly conduct for his involvement in Minnesota Vikings “sex boat scandal” where several Vikings players performed sexual acts with paid strippers during a party held on two houseboats rented by one of the Vikings players.
McKinnie was also arrested and charged in 2008 with aggravated battery, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest without violence after his involvement in a fight outside a Miami nightclub. He reportedly spit in the face and shoved his cell phone in the face of a bouncer before later hitting the bouncer with a heavy pole.
