The Esperanza Center will celebrate 50 years of serving Baltimore’s immigrant communities, 5:30 p.m., with the unveiling and formal dedication of an outdoor mural on its building located at Broadway and Eastern Ave.
The dedication of the restored mural will be the centerpiece of the celebration. The Esperanza Center, originally named the Hispanic Apostolate, opened its doors on Sept. 16, 1963 to begin serving immigrants in the Archdiocese of Baltimore. In the past year, the Esperanza Center has served more than 5,600 people from 77 countries of origin, offering classes in English and citizenship, skills training, health, mental health and dental care for uninsured individuals, and immigration legal services.
The Baltimore Shakespeare Factory's children's troupe is accepting registrations of third through eighth graders for their production of The Tempest which begins rehearsals Sept. 17. They are also offering a $50 discount to any camp registrant who brings another registrant to the program. The new registrant will also get a $50 discount.
