Baltimore Gas and Electric Company Working to Improve Electric Reliability in Baltimore County Communities

Equipment enhancements to improve reliability for more than 1,300 of BGE customers

One of many efforts throughout central Maryland intended to strengthen BGE’s electric infrastructure

BALTIMORE, Oct. 25, 2012 – Baltimore Gas and Electric Company (BGE) announced today that it is working to enhance the electric service of more than 1,300 Baltimore County residents through various equipment upgrades and vegetation management in Wiltondale and surrounding communities in Towson, Md.  When complete, these efforts will benefit customers both in times of calm and during adverse weather.

“This work is an example of BGE’s unwavering commitment to its customers and is one of many investments throughout BGE’s central Maryland service area intended to enhance reliability and customer service,” said Jeannette M. Mills, vice president and chief customer officer for BGE. “BGE closely monitors and analyzes the performance of its electric system and, when necessary, replaces, upgrades or otherwise enhances equipment to improve performance and the customer experience.”

In addition to upgrading portions of its overhead power lines and associated equipment in the area, BGE will install new underground lines along portions of Stevenson Lane, Cedar Avenue, Newberry Lane, Knollwood Road and Fairway Drive to reduce the community’s dependence on the existing overhead lines.

As part of these reliability efforts, BGE is conducting tree and vegetation management to prune for proper clearance and, when appropriate, remove trees that threaten BGE’s distribution facilities.  Customers typically experience up to 40 percent fewer tree-related power interruptions where branches have been recently cut back.  As always, BGE’s forestry contractors will notify all customers before any work is done on private property.

Founded in 1816, BGE is the nation’s oldest gas utility and among the country’s oldest electric utilities. The company today maintains more than 25,000 circuit miles of power lines. For more information on how BGE works to provide you safe and reliable electric and gas serivce, please visit
