BGE Restores Service to Nearly 95 Percent of Customers Affected by Sunday’s Snow and Freezing

Company prepared for the possibility of additional outages as a new weather front is forecasted to bring snow and sleet on

BALTIMORE (Dec. 9, 2013) – Baltimore Gas and Electric Company (BGE) continues restoration efforts following the snow and freezing rain that impacted its central Maryland service area Sunday and early Monday morning, leaving more than 23,000 customers without power. As of 4 p.m., BGE has restored service to nearly 95 percent of affected customers, or more than 22,000 customers. All remaining customers affected by this weather system should be restored to service by late this evening and crews continue to work around-the-clock to restore service safely and as quickly as possible. Customers are reminded to stay informed of restoration progress via bge.com, Twitter and Facebook. In addition, BGE is monitoring an approaching weather system, forecasted to bring snow and sleet throughout the service territory beginning tomorrow morning, and is preparing customers for the possibility of additional outages.

“We thank our customers for their patience and understanding as crews work under challenging conditions to restore power,” said Carol Dodson, vice president and chief customer officer for BGE. “We also advise our customers to prepare for the possibility of additional outages that may occur as more winter weather enters the region on Tuesday morning. Customers should visit BGE’s online Storm Center for important information on how to stay safe during and after a storm.” 

As a reminder, BGE customers who are elderly, disabled or dependent on electricity for medical equipment, should always have alternate arrangements in place should they experience an extended power outage (Customers with Special Needs). Customers using a generator should follow manufacturer instructions and be sure to locate generators in well-ventilated areas.
