Spring is underway in the District and it feels great. As Hollywood comes to the District for the White House Correspondents Dinner, one of the biggest events of the season, other Washingtonians are gearing up to lay to rest one of the Civil Rights Movement’s greatest leaders. President Barack Obama, who once called the late Dr. Dorothy Height the “godmother of the Civil Rights movement” gave the eulogy at her funeral on Thursday, April 29 at the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C.?

Tonya Lewis-Lee, wife of director Spike Lee, hosted a panel on fatherhood at Busboys & Poets last week. The conversation was led by Dr. Garth Graham, Dr. Bryant Mark, Dr. William J. Parker and Roland Warren. Jeff Johnson, the spirited on-air personality, who was scheduled to appear on the panel, was unable to attend.??

Spotted Around Town:??

Rapper turned actor Common was spotted performing in Ibiza Nightclub while promoting his latest film Just Wright that hits theaters on May 14.

Raheem DeVaughn along with Dre “The Mayor” celebrated their music group, 368’s one-year anniversary last Friday in the District. Starting with an industry-only event at the Gucci store in Bethesda, the celebration ended with an after-party at Lux Lounge. Many people came out to support the musical duo including artists Phil Ade, Tabi Bonney, R&B singer Paula Campbell, radio personality Shaqwana from the “Russ Parr Morning Show” and DJ Alizay.??

Actor Terrence Howard was spotted last week at Oya Restaurant and Lounge having lunch with his daughter. He was in town to meet with lobbyist Tanya Lombard. Winter Olympian Shani Davis was in Washington last week along with other athletes for a special visit to the White House.??

Actor Hill Harper was spotted partying inside Josephine last Sunday while Attorney General Eric Holder was spotted golfing with his family. Last Monday, Jesse Jackson Sr. was spotted walking hand-in-hand with his son in Dupont Circle while Gabrielle Union was in the District promoting National Volunteer Week.??

Local hip-hop artist DC Don Juan celebrated his birthday at Ibiza Nightclub and brought out many of his “socialebrity” (it’s my new word that I’m trying out for size; means celebrities that are now known for their socializing) friends. The party was hosted by model Rosa Acosta. New morning show host Big Tigger was spotted at the same party getting down with the locals.

Washington Wizards' player Andray Blatche hosted an end of the season party at District where former NBA player Steve Francis made an appearance. Known for hits such as “Mr. Boombastic,” reggae artiste Shaggy stopped by WKYS-FM studios last week.
