Pair will discuss recent failures in Amtrak service and response with customers, media
Washington, DC – U.S. Senator Benjamin L. Cardin (D-MD) will join Governor Martin O’Malley TODAY, Thursday, June 24, aboard a MARC train from BWI Airport to New Carrollton, following what the Governor has called “unacceptable” failures in service and response to interruptions on the part of Amtrak, the operator of the MARC system for the State of Maryland. Senator Cardin, a long-time advocate for public transit, has used his position on the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee to promote dedicated funding streams for transit systems like MARC, Metro and Amtrak, which are in dire need of essential safety and infrastructure upgrades.
Senator Cardin and Governor O’Malley will be available for media before boarding the train at BWI and after departing the train at New Carrollton. During their trip, they will discuss the needs for improvement with MARC customers, such as clear policies for response during emergencies from MARC and Amtrak.
