Washington, DC – U.S. Senator Benjamin L. Cardin (D-MD), Chairman of the Water and Wildlife Subcommittee, will hold a hearing TODAY, Tuesday, July 27 at 2:30pm to discuss damages to natural resources as a result of the BP Deepwater Horizon disaster. The hearing will examine the process of natural resource damage assessment under the Oil Pollution Act of 1990 and related laws, lessons learned from past disasters, including the Exxon Valdez, and the status of the natural resource damage assessment currently being conducted to assess the impacts of the BP Deepwater Horizon disaster. This assessment process is critical for holding the responsible parties accountable for the environmental damage they have caused and will help determine the scope and scale of restoration work.
