ANNAPOLIS, Md. (May 20, 2011) – On MONDAY, Lieutenant Governor Anthony G. Brown will hold a series of events in Harford and Cecil Counties to discuss the O’Malley-Brown Administration’s economic development efforts.

The Lt. Governor will give opening remarks at an MBE University Conference at Harford Community College in Bel Air, the seventh in a traveling series of conferences offering training and information for minority and women-owned businesses to arm them with the tools necessary to expand, create jobs, and thrive, even in difficult economic times. Under the O’Malley-Brown Administration, Maryland has an aggressive and progressive MBE Program and has established the highest minority and women-owned business contracting goals in the nation at 25 percent.

Next, Lt. Governor Brown will speak at the Cecil County Chamber of Commerce Luncheon in Charlestown where he will discuss the state of Maryland’s economy and the importance of supporting small businesses. Today it was announced that private sector employers created 16,400 jobs in Maryland during April, a 0.8 percent rate of private sector job growth, according to data released by the U.S. Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Following the Chamber of Commerce Luncheon, the Lt. Governor will join Delegate David Rudolph (District 34B) for a tour of former United States Naval Training Center, Bainbridge, Cecil County's number one redevelopment site for economic development, to hear plans for the project’s future.
