Comptroller To Make First Direct Wine Shipment Purchase in State’s History

-Promote Law Allowing Increased Consumer Choice, Bolstering Wineries

WHO: Comptroller Peter Franchot
Rob Deford, Owner, Boordy Vineyards

WHAT: Comptroller Peter Franchot will secure a place in Maryland history by becoming the first person to legally purchase wine and have it shipped to his home. Maryland’s historic direct wine shipment law, passed during the last legislative session, goes into effect on July 1 and allows consumers to have wine shipped directly to their homes. Previously, Maryland wine enthusiasts had to buy all wine through a retailer, making the purchase of smaller and more boutique wines difficult for many and putting state wineries at a disadvantage.

WHEN: TOMORROW- Friday, July 1
11:30 a.m.

WHERE: Boordy Vineyards
12820 Long Green Pike
Hydes, MD 21082
