An additional 300 linemen and support personnel from Alabama Power will join more than 3,800 BGE employees, contractors and out-of-state personnel actively engaged in storm restoration. At this staging site, they will receive their safety briefing and then head out to assist in the restoration efforts. These linemen will supplement the approximately one-thousand linemen and support staff from eight states including Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee and West Virginia. Many of these external resources were requested by BGE and arrived in Maryland several days in advance of Hurricane Irene’s arrival, positioning BGE to begin restoring electric service as soon as it was safe to do so.
