ANNAPOLIS, Md. (September 12, 2011) – TOMORROW, Lt. Governor Anthony G. Brown will preside over a meeting of the Maryland Health Care Reform Coordinating Council (HCRCC) in Annapolis, the Council’s tenth meeting overall. The Council, co-chaired by Lt. Governor Brown and Department of Health and Mental Hygiene Secretary Dr. Joshua M. Sharfstein, will discuss the progress being made to establish Maryland’s health benefit exchange and implement other reform measures. The meeting will include remarks from the new executive director of Maryland’s Health Benefit Exchange, Rebecca Pearce. Joanne Grossi, Regional Director, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services will also be in attendance and will make brief remarks on behalf of Secretary Sebelius. Lt. Governor Brown leads the O’Malley-Brown Administration’s efforts to reduce costs, expand access, and improve the quality of care for all Marylanders. Under the leadership of Governor O’Malley and Lt. Governor Brown, Maryland has implemented reforms that have expanded health coverage to over 289,000 Marylanders and put the State in position to maximize the federal Affordable Care Act (ACA).
