Will introduce featured author Sherman Alexie at the Baltimore Book Festival
ANNAPOLIS, MD (September 24, 2011) – TODAY, First Lady Judge Katie O’Malley will participate in the Baltimore Book Festival by introducing Sherman Alexie.
The Baltimore Book Festival features hundreds of author appearances and book signings, over 100 exhibitors and booksellers, non-stop readings on multiple stages, cooking demos by celebrity chefs, poetry readings and workshops, panel discussions, walking tours, storytellers and hands-on projects for kids, street theater, live music, and a delicious variety of food.
Hosted by the Maryland Humanities Council, this is the fourth year of the One Maryland One Book event, which is designed to bring together diverse people in communities across the state through the shared experience of reading the same book. Readers are invited to participate in book-centered discussions and other associated programs in libraries, educational facilities, museums, and other community centers.
This year’s One Maryland One Book selection, The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, by Sherman Alexie is a 2007 National Book Award winner in Young People’s Literature. The book includes themes such as poverty, bullying, grief and alcoholism.
“Through the discussion of literature, we have the opportunity to come together as a community to have meaningful conversations and address the challenges and obstacles we face,” said the First Lady.
