LT. GOVERNOR BROWN TO DELIVER KEYNOTE AT NEW AMERICANS STREET FESTIVAL
BALTIMORE, Md. (September 21, 2012) – TOMORROW, Lt. Governor Anthony G. Brown will deliver keynote remarks at the New Americans Street Festival kicking off the 5th annual National Immigrant Immigration Conference (NIIC) in Baltimore. The Street Festival, new to the NIIC this year, will feature a Naturalization Ceremony, during which U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services Associate Director Rendell Jones, will administer the Oath of Allegiance to 50 candidates for citizenship. The event also includes cultural dance and vocal performers from around the state and presentations by the Governor’s Ethnic and Cultural Commissions.
The Governor’s Office on Community Initiatives, the Department of Labor Licensing and Regulation, the Department of Human Resources and the Baltimore Hilton Hotel are sponsoring the kick-off event. The 2012 NIIC is themed “Celebrando la diversidad.” Sponsored by Casa de Maryland and the National Partnership for New Americans, the three-day event will focus on empowering immigrants to build, stronger healthier communities and ensuring that immigrants have the opportunity to become integral members of the U.S. communities they call home.
