GOVERNOR MARTIN O'MALLEY ANNOUNCES APPOINTMENTS TO VARIOUS BOARDS AND COUNCILS

BALTIMORE, MD (October 11, 2012) - Governor Martin O’Malley today announced appointments to the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Board of Directors, the Cecil College Board of Trustees, and to the Governor’s P-20 Leadership Council of Maryland.

“I am pleased to announce the appointment of these well-qualified individuals to boards and commissions across the State,” said Governor O’Malley. “Each of these individuals brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise that will serve as an asset to the boards they will serve on.”

Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA) Board of Directors:

Earl Adams, Jr., Esq. is a new appointee to the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA) Board of Directors. Mr. Adams is currently Of Counsel in DLA Piper’s Litigation and Government Affairs practices. His practice focuses on representing clients before all branches of state and local government, including various administrative agencies, and in development transactions involving public-private partnerships. Mr. Adams previously served as Chief of Staff to Lieutenant Governor Anthony G. Brown where he worked on issues relating to expanding and improving health care, economic development, increasing access to higher education and providing veterans with better services and resources. Mr. Adams was named as one of the Maryland Daily Record's “Very Important Professionals” under the age of 40 and serves on the board of directors for several organizations, including the Baltimore Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America, the Seed School of Maryland (Board of Trustees of Residential Boarding Education Programs), and the President’s Advisory Council for the Greater Baltimore Committee. Before entering public service, Mr. Adams practiced labor and employment law in the Washington, DC office of an international law firm. Prior to becoming a lawyer, he worked in the airline industry as a revenue management market analyst for American Airlines in Dallas, Texas. Mr. Adams graduated cum laude with a B.A. from Morehouse College, earned his M.P.A. from the Harvard Kennedy School and a J.D. from Boston College Law School. Mr. Adams resides in Prince George’s County with his wife, Tamara Devieux-Adams, Esq., and their two sons, Earl III and Avery.

Cecil College Board of Trustees:

Cydney Teal, M.D. is a new appointee to the Cecil College Board of Trustees. Dr. Teal currently serves as the chief medical officer and attending physician at Union Hospital in Elkton. She also serves on the Cecil County Health Advisory Committee, the Cecil College Diversity Council, the Union Hospital Bioethics Committee and the Union Hospital Credentials Committee. Dr. Teal is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, the American College of Physicians and the American College of Physician Executives. She earned her B.A. in Rhetoric and Communication Studies from the University of Virginia and her M.D. from the Medical College of Virginia School of Medicine. Dr. Teal is a Cecil County resident.

Uninsured Employers Fund Board:

Carolyn Krysiak is a new appointee to the Uninsured Employers Fund Board. Ms. Krysiak is a former member of the Maryland House of Delegates representing Baltimore City District 46 (1991-2011) where she served as a member of the Judiciary Committee (1991-1992) and the Economic Matters Committee (1992-2011). She also served as Deputy Majority Leader (1995-1998), Deputy Majority Whip (1999-2002), Deputy Speaker Pro Tem (2003-2006) and as House Chair of the Workers’ Compensation Benefit and Insurance Oversight Committee (2007-2011). Ms. Krysiak is currently the Chair of the Board of the Southeast Community Development Corporation and a Member of the Board of Trustees of the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center where she serves as Chair of the Patient Quality and Safety Committee of Bayview. Ms. Krysiak attended The Catholic High School, the University of Maryland and the Community College of Baltimore. She resides in Baltimore City.

Michael J. Hayes, Esq. is a new appointee to the Uninsured Employers Fund Board. Mr. Hayes is an associate professor of law for the University of Baltimore School of Law. Previously he taught at Albany Law School and the Southern Illinois University School of Law. Prior to his teaching career, he served as general counsel for the labor law firm of Sherman, Dunn, Cohen, Leifer & Yellig, P.C. and served as counsel for the National Labor Relations Board. Mr. Hayes received his B.S. from Cornell University and his J.D. from the University of Virginia Law School. He resides in Baltimore County.

Governor’s P-20 Leadership Council of Maryland:

The P-20 Leadership Council includes leaders in education and business who investigate and advise the Governor and the Maryland General Assembly on ways to improve education, advance workforce creation, and make the State more competitive. The new appointees are:

- Lillian M. Lowery, Ed.D. - State Superintendent of Schools

- Leonard J. Howie, III - Secretary of Labor, Licensing and Regulation

- Kevin M. Maxwell, Ph.D. - Superintendent of Anne Arundel County Public Schools

- Bernard J. Sadusky, Ed.D. - Executive Director of the Maryland Association of Community Colleges

- Elizabeth H. Weller - President of the Maryland State Education Association

- Karen A. Verbeke, Ph.D. - Director of Teacher Education for the University of Maryland Eastern Shore and President of the Maryland Association of Colleges for Teacher Education
