IN RIBBON CUTTING FOR FINE AND
PERFORMING ARTS CENTER AT BOWIE

BOWIE, Md. (November 16, 2012) – TOMORROW, Lt. Governor Anthony G. Brown will give remarks and participate in a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new $71 million Fine & Performing Arts Center (FPAC) at Bowie State University (BSU) during the Prince George’s Arts & Humanities Council’s Arts Gala Awards. Prince George’s County Executive Rushern Baker, BSU President Dr. Mickey Burnim, and over 200 community members, arts education advocates, BSU supporters, and other state and local officials are also expected to attend. Following the ribbon cutting, there will be a formal program during which Lt. Governor Brown will give remarks and present a Governor’s Proclamation to commemorate the event.
The Prince George’s Arts & Humanities Council’s Arts Gala Awards is a fundraising event to promote high quality arts education for all students in Prince George’s County and celebrate the FPAC grand opening. Several individuals and organizations will be honored for their commitment to the arts through creative excellence, scholarship, leadership, philanthropy and service. The Fine and Performing Arts Center at Bowie State University is a stunning $71 million state-of-the-art facility with more than 123,000 square feet of specialized teaching and performance spaces. The building supports three distinct disciplines in the arts – fine art, music, and theater – in acoustically isolated zones that enable simultaneous performances and classroom activities. The elegantly appointed facility features an intimate 400-seat main stage theater with a rising orchestra pit, a black box theater for experimental works, a 150-seat recital hall, a versatile movement studio and a fine art gallery.
