Than $300,000 in Grants to Emergency Response

Organizations throughout Central Maryland 
 
New grant program recognizes long-standing company support of and partnership with emergency responders and other emergency services organizations

Representatives from approximately 40 volunteer fire departments and emergency preparedness, response and safety organizations from across Maryland who received a 2012 BGE Emergency Responders Safety Grant
                                       
WHAT:              In late 2012, BGE launched a new grant program designed specifically for emergency response and safety organizations.  Eligible organizations that provide emergency services support throughout BGE’s central Maryland service area – either preparedness or response and recovery – were encouraged to apply for a single grant of up to $10,000.  During the press conference, more than $300,000 will be distributed to approximately 40 organizations which represent Baltimore City and the ten counties in which BGE provides natural gas and/or electric service, including volunteer fire departments, search and rescue teams and other public safety groups.

WHY:                BGE greatly values its relationships with its emergency response partners.  Through this program, BGE has the unique opportunity to further strengthen its support of emergency responders as part of Exelon’s $70 million, 10-year commitment to Maryland. Examples of equipment to be purchased with BGE grant monies include defibrillators, radio systems, thermal imager cameras, rescue tools and carbon monoxide detection equipment.
