Comptroller Franchot Pitches In on “Frantic Friday”
- Helps His Staff Open Tens of Thousands of Last Minute Returns -
WHO: Comptroller Peter Franchot
WHAT: Comptroller Franchot will join hundreds of his agency’s workers to open tens of thousands of tax returns mailed in the final days before this year’s April 15 tax filing deadline. Traditionally, the agency gathers employees on the Saturday after the deadline, calling it “Super Saturday”, to open the huge volume of mail received in the days after the deadline. With the steady rise in e-filing and increased efficiencies in processing, the agency has been able to forego the weekend work and instead hold a “Frantic Friday”.
During “Frantic Friday,” volunteers from the Annapolis and Baltimore offices will work together to open the immense volume of mail received the week of the filing deadline. Last year, the Comptroller and his staff opened more than 90 thousand returns in a one day blowout. The Comptroller will also be on hand to discuss his impressions and thoughts about this year’s tax filing season.
