Edwards Statement on President Obama’s Nomination of Davita Vance-Cooks to Public Printer
Washington, DC – Congresswoman Donna F. Edwards (MD-4) released the following statement today regarding President Barack Obama’s nomination of Davita Vance-Cooks to Public Printer, Government Printing Office.
“I commend President Obama for his nomination of Davita Vance-Cooks to Public Printer of the Government Printing Office (GPO). With 30 years of experience in the public and private sector, including the position of Deputy Public Printer, Ms. Vance-Cooks is well-qualified to serve as the first African American woman to run the Government Printing Office.
Under her leadership, GPO implemented an agency wide strategic performance plan, awarded approximately $500 million dollars annually in printing contracts to the private industry, and oversaw the award of a $50 million contract for the production of 2010 census materials; one of the largest procurements in agency history. Ms. Vance-Cooks will continue to build on these efforts as Public Printer, and I urge her swift confirmation.”
