Nancy M. Wylie, 97

Nancy Mayfield Wylie, lovingly called Nanny, was born on October 28, 1914 to the late Willie Mayfield and Ella Lyles Mayfield in Fairfield, (Chester County) South Carolina. Nancy was the granddaughter of the late Will Lyles and Nancy Crosby Lyles. This girl child later became the Family Matriarch.

At an early age, Nanny accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior and joined the New Hope Baptist Church in Chester, S.C. that was founded and built by her grandfather, Will Lyles. Nanny attended the Will Lyles Elementary School also built by her grandfather and elected not to board in town to attend Finley High School. Instead, Nanny felt her job was to stay home and help provide for her younger sisters and others at home.

On July 30, 1938, Nanny married Ambrose Wylie who predeceased her on March 14, 1969. To this union four children were born, Louella, Louise, Willie and Martena. In 1945, Nanny relocated to Baltimore to join her husband. She joined the Mt. Hebron Baptist Church and was very active in her church, having served as an usher, and in many leadership roles over the years.

Nancy’s employment career spanned over fifty years, during which she performed outside the home as a domestic worker and as a caterer. Nanny always excelled at whatever she did, which provided her with opportunities to work for very prominent families and catering companies.

Nanny retired at the age of 80. After retiring she was so proud that she was physically and mentally capable to baby sit her great grandchildren, Keith Jr., and Kyler until they were enrolled in day care.

After God, Nancy’s love was her family, both immediate and extended. There is nothing she would not do to support her family. Nancy provided an excellent example for us to emulate, having lived by Christ’s example herself. She was a woman of strong character, great wisdom and deep compassion with many skill sets. She inspired and encouraged all of us to be the best that we can be.

Over Nanny’s 96 years of life, many of her dreams and desires were fulfilled. She enjoyed cruising to the Caribbean and Hawaii, attending plays, and traveling throughout the United States. At age 90, Nanny was still able to attend the great-grandchildren’s football games and other activities.

We will forever hold Nanny’s teaching close to our hearts and all that her descendents are or hope to be we owe to our angel family matriarch, Nancy Mayfield Wylie.

Nanny was predeceased by: two sisters, Hassie Buckson and Lillie Strong; her son, Willie D. Wylie, grandson, Kirk Q. Garner; great-grandson, Keteyian R. Garner; and godson, Jerry Parker.

Nancy leaves to cherish her memories many relatives and friends.
