Rev. Dr. James E. Murchison, 97

James Edward Murchison was born October 15, 1925 and departed this life November 6 at Baltimore Washington Medical Center.

He was born the eldest son of Carsey James and Mary Kate (McKeithen) Murchison in Jonesboro, N.C. He came to Baltimore at the age of 15 to continue his education. World War II found him a ready candidate and he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp,. He served two years in Guam and other pacific islands. There in the midst of that chaos and confusion, he dedicated his life to the Lord.

Returning home safely to six daughters, he continued his education and found solace in studying God’s word.

Pastor Murchison did this while working out the plan that God had for his life. He enjoyed life, laughter, a good ball game, checkers, and bowling-often boasting how he beat the young people at that game.

He leaves to cherish his memory: a sister, Allene Williams; a brother, LaVernie Murchison both of Sanford, N.C.; three daughters, Flocelia Gaskins, Evelyn Barksdale, and Annette Garrison; a devoted step-daughter, Daphne (Debbie) J. Neal Mensah; two sons-in-law, James Gaskins and Herbert Mensah; a mentored son and computer tech, Jonathan Key; many, many grand’s; great-great grandchildren; caring neighbors; loving nieces and nephews. His personal motto was: “I will live as long as I can; and die when I can’t help it.”
