Hello everyone, the summer is soon coming to the end, so get out there and enjoy the festivities that are going on now.
The Heralds of Hope Theater Company is hosting a two-character drama called Countdown to the Happy Day that depicts, in gritty street language and with occasional grim humor, the unlikely involvement of Gertie, a self-styled street person in her 30’s or 40’s, and Cervin, a hulking 15-year-old, both of whom are African American. Percy W. Thomas and Margaret Locklear, theater enthusiast and director, have merged their talents to co-direct Countdown to the Happy Day.
This is a play that reveals urban social dynamics of living on the streets and facing life without family support. This play sounds like it could be very entertaining, check it out. It is being presented on Aug.9, through Sept. 1, 2013 at the Sojourner-Douglas College Theater, 200 N. Central Avenue. For more information, call 410-736-1846.
Did you know that Mike Jones, who grew-up and played with the Fabulous Friends Plus One for more than 30 years, is now the newest member of the Temptations? Well, R&D Productions will do a tribute in honor of Mike Jones at the Steel Workers Union Hall, 540 Dundalk Avenue from 7 p.m. until midnight on Aug. 10.

Now folks, this is crab season as you know; so if you are a crab lover, I’ve got a couple of places you should go and enjoy. There is the Oakleigh Station Bar & Grill, located at 7122 Darlington Drive, Parkville, Md. is having their First Annual Crab Feast on Aug. 11, from 3-7 p.m., serving all you can eat crabs, fried chicken, BBQ chicken, fried fish, pasta salad, beans, wine and draft beer. Another one is every Wednesday is Crab Night and is hosted by Jeff Sewell, Commander of the Sons, American Legion, located 151 Winters Lane in Catonsville, Md. . It starts at 7 p.m.
Another American Legion is hosting a Crab Feast on Aug. 10, 3-8 p.m. at the Patapsco Arena; 3301 Annapolis Blvd. Tickets include a full-course, open buffet, all the crabs you can eat, beer, free set-ups, dj music and door prizes.
Dr. Phill Butts, musician and band director, will host “The Battle of the Big Bands” on Aug. 11 from 1-6 p.m. at Blob’s Park, 8034 Max Blob’s Park Road, in Jessup, Md., featuring; Dr. Phill’s Big Band, Bayside Big Band and Dale Corn Capitol Limited Orchestra. They will have full service food and beverages available. This is a charity benefit for Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. Go listen and dance to the music of the 1930’s-1950’s big band era. Support the cause.
The Allstate Gospel Superfest National Talent Search returns this summer to Baltimore on Aug. 10 at the New Antioch Baptist Church, 5609 Old Court Road. Audition times are 6-9 p.m. The Allstate Gospel Superfest} is one of the nation’s largest TV recordings in the field of urban-targeted, inspirational music and entertainment. Founded in 1998, the show has maintained a consistent presence in broadcast syndication for thirteen consecutive years. It is carried by major TV network-affiliated stations including: ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, CW, & MeTV. As a special treat to fans, national recording artists will close out each audition session with a free concert and meet and greet session.
