Police have arrested a third suspect for the shooting of a 16-month-old toddler in Baltimore.
Rashid Mayo, 22, was arrested more than 1,100 miles from Baltimore in an apartment in Ruston, La., two months after the May 24 shooting.
According to police, Mayo is one of three men involved in a double shooting in the 1100 block of Cherry Hill, during which 16-month-old Carter Scott was shot and killed while sitting in the backseat of his father’s parked car.
Police said at around 7:30 p.m. that night, three suspects approached the car where Carter Scott and his father, Rashaw Scott, sat. According to police records, the three suspects wore hoodies and latex gloves and unloaded more than 16 bullets into the vehicle.
Carter Scott was hit by a single bullet to the leg. Police said the toddler was unresponsive at the scene and was transferred to a local hospital where he later died. The boy’s father, who was in the front seat, was shot multiple times and transferred to a local area hospital, but survived.
Two other men, Cornell Harvey, 26, and Eddie Traver, 20, have been arrested and charged in the shootings. Both were arrested within days of the shooting.
Initially, police believed Mayo had fled Baltimore and was hiding in New York. Mayo’s girlfriend, Breyon Carson, 22, who he was living with at the time of the shooting, has also been arrested and charged as an accessory after-the-fact and with giving a false statement to the police.
