A Baltimore man has been arrested for the shooting death of a man over Memorial Day weekend.
Tavon T. Hammond, 28, is charged with the murder of a 24-year-old Sykesville man, Blake Harris. According to police records, Harris was shot at the intersection of Marble Hall Road and Cold Spring Lane in Baltimore around 7:30 p.m. on May 24. Police said he was transported to a local area hospital. Harris was pronounced dead 30 minutes later.
In addition to a count of first-degree murder, Hammond also faces charges of first degree assault, use of a firearm with a prior felony record, second degree murder, second degree assault and possession of a handgun.
According to court records, Hammond has been arrested on a host of other charges going back to 2003.
Harris’ murder was one of three shooting deaths which occurred over the holiday weekend, including the slaying of 16-month-old toddler Carter Scott, who was hit in the leg by a bullet while sitting in the backseat of his father’s car in Cherry Hill. A third incident was a police involved shooting in the 300 block of S. Poppleton Street on May 25. Police reported nine non-fatal shootings during that weekend.
