Kanika Feaster, an African-American Baltimore City resident and program manager for LIFE, a local nonprofit, was recently hired as the recruitment coordinator for Horseshoe Casino Baltimore. Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake and CBAC Gaming, the owners of Horseshoe Casino, announced feaster’s appointment at a Board of Estimates meeting on Aug. 14.
At LIFE, Feaster’s responsibilities included job recruitment training and supervision, staff management and client recruitment. She also managed site supervision, budgeting and strategic planning.
In her new role, Feaster will be responsible for helping qualified city residents apply for the 1,700 positions that will be created at the $442 million downtown gaming facility.
“As Baltimore gears up for the opening of our amazing new casino, I am pleased to announce that Kanika will join us to ensure that our citizens will have every opportunity to join the Horseshoe Baltimore team,” Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake said in a statement. “Her energetic persona and experience in community outreach will serve our City and residents well as we continue to promote local hiring through our Employ Baltimore – Ready to Work for You initiative.”
Chad Barnhill, Horseshoe Baltimore Senior Vice President and General Manager, added: “We’re pleased to welcome Kanika to Horseshoe Baltimore. Working in close association with the Mayor’s Office of Employment Development, Kanika will play an integral role in shaping a community outreach program that informs city residents about the 1,700 jobs that will be available at our world-class facility and encourages qualified candidates to apply. Horseshoe Baltimore will be Charm City’s casino, and we want city residents to be employed there.”
Groundbreaking for Baltimore’s first casino began on May 29. The gaming emporium will feature a 110, 000-square-foot gaming floor with slot machines, table games and a poker room. The complex will also feature two restaurants, a food hall and three lounges. It’s slated to open in mid-2014.
