District Man Gets Prison Sentence For Attempted Sexual Assault

Ronnie Moore, 48, of Washington, D.C., was sentenced July 23 to four years in prison on charges stemming from an incident in which he lured a woman into his car and then tried to sexually assault her, announced U.S. Attorney Ronald C. Machen Jr.

Moore pled guilty in May to assault with intent to commit first-degree sexual abuse and felony threats. As a result of the plea, Moore must register as a sex offender for the rest of his life and faces 10 years of supervision upon release.

According to evidence, on March 10, 2012, Moore was driving at the intersection of Branch and Pennsylvania avenues S.E. when he saw the victim, then 19, waiting for a bus. Moore offered her a ride after mentioning her mother, whom he knew. The woman accepted the ride.

As he drove, Moore complimented her and asked if she would have sex with him for money. When she refused, Moore threatened to kill her if she did not comply. The victim punched Moore in the face and eventually was able to escape the car. Moore sped off. On June 20, 2012, the victim saw Moore in line at a supermarket on Alabama Avenue SE. She notified a police officer working in the store and Moore was arrested.
