Greater Washington Urban League Sponsors Health and Wellness Fest


The Greater Washington Urban League, in partnership with AmeriHealth D.C., will present a Community Health and Wellness Back To School Festival, the Urban League said in a statement.

The event is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Aug. 17 at 2901 14th St. NW, at the intersection of Harvard Street, two blocks from the Columbia Heights Metro station on the Green Line. The festival is one of several activities planned to celebrate the Greater Washington Urban League’s 75th anniversary.

Free book bags and school supplies will be given away. There will be food, arts and crafts, vendors, drawings for prizes and entertainment for adults and special activities for children including a moon bounce, face painting, games and free popcorn and cotton candy. Free fresh produce will be given away.

The event offer attendees free health screenings for cholesterol, diabetes, high blood pressure, HIV and stress. There will also be tests to gauge body mass index, bone density and dental health.

The event will also feature loan information for first-time home buyers; entrepreneur certification information; and a financial literacy workshop, according to the organization.

CVS Pharmacy will also conduct interviews and hire on the spot. Job seekers are asked to apply on the CVS website and to come to the health festival prepared for an interview.
