U.S. Dream Academy Executive Director Named To 2013 List of Maryland’s Top 100 Women

C. Diane Wallace Booker, Executive Director of the U.S. Dream Academy, has been named to The Daily Record’s 2013 list of Maryland’s Top 100 Women.

The Daily Record created its annual list of Maryland’s Top 100 Women in order to recognize outstanding achievement by women who have demonstrated significant professional accomplishments, outstanding community leadership and inspirational mentoring. This year’s Daily Record Top 100 Women celebrates its 18th anniversary. Since 1996, the newspaper has recognized more than 1,000 high-achieving women who are making an impact in Maryland. This year’s winners were honored May 6 at the Meyerhof Symphony Hall in Baltimore.

Wallace Booker serves as Executive Director of the U.S. Dream Academy, a national non-profit, which works to provide support and mentorship to children of incarcerated parents. Since its inception in 1998, she has played a key role in creating and growing the programming and fundraising structure for the U.S. Dream Academy. She led the initial pilot program and the subsequent expansion initiatives of the Dream Academy to ten locations across the U.S., and has helped raise the organization’s profile tremendously, leading to increased national awareness of the needs of children with incarcerated parents. In 2000, President Bill Clinton helped to open the first Center in Washington D.C. along with support from former Secretary Alexis Herman. From Capitol Hill to Oprah Winfrey, and many elected officials and internationally recognized celebrities, Wallace Booker along with the help of her staff, has rallied individuals around the country to commit themselves to aiding the important works of the U.S. Dream Academy.
