NBA star Dwyane Wade’s has agreed to a $5 million divorce settlement with ex-wife Siohvaughn Funches-Wade, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.
The action, approved by Cook County Circuit Court Judge John Thomas Carr July 22, settled the dissolution of Wade’s marriage to his former high school sweetheart and ends a lengthy and messy divorce and custody battle that played out in Chicago courtrooms between Wade, a Chicago-area native.
The settlement includes a “non-disparage” agreement barring disparaging statements by the couple about each other and the award of the couple’s mansion and four cars to the ex-wife.
On July 19, Funches-Wade went in front of a Chicago courthouse with a sign that read “NBA Miami Heat star, mother of his children on the streets.” Wade was supposedly not paying her the $25,000 a month that they had agreed on. Wade’s mother was homeless at one time in her life.
Wade's lawyer James Pritikin said in a statement released to the Daily News that “Despite false allegations by Ms. Funches claiming to be ‘homeless’ and ‘destitute,’ Dwyane Wade has maintained over the years financial support to his ex-wife by providing her with income over $25,000 on a monthly basis, timely paid for her home mortgage, maintenance and security at the house, four cars, insurance, taxes and all of her attorney fees throughout this process.”
Wade ranked 23rd in a Forbes list of the world’s richest athletes recently, with $17.4 million in salary and $11.5 million in endorsements since last June.
Wade and Funches-Wade married in 2002. In 2007 Wade sought a divorce that was granted in 2010. In 2011, Wade was awarded custody of their two sons Zion and Zaire. The latest action covers distribution of property.
