The National Association of Black Accountants has appointed Angela L. Avant its president and CEO. Avant, a certified public accountant, previously served as the D.C. Inspector General.
NABA is the leading professional association focused on the recruitment, retention and advancement of minorities in accounting, finance and business-related professions. The association has 50 professional and 150 student chapters, representing over 20,000 members across the United States. It has awarded more than $8 million in scholarships to college students interested in business professions.
“Angela brings to her new position passion for and commitment to our mission, business management and development expertise, professional experience and deep relationships in the business community," said NABA Board Chairman Kenneth E. Cooke. "Angela has performed at the highest levels of our profession, across multiple industries and disciplines. She has a long history of service to NABA, having served three-terms as chairman of the board of directors, as well as in regional, local and other national leadership roles.”
Most recently, Avant served as an executive management consultant. Prior to that, she was the partner in charge of diversity for KPMG LLP Americas. She also held high-level positions at Corning and Andersen LLP.
“NABA has played a critical role in our profession and one from which I have personally benefited," Avant said. "While our profession has made significant progress with respect to the representation of minorities, there is still much work to do. I am excited about the opportunity to provide leadership to the development and execution of NABA’s strategic priorities. ”
Avant is a member of numerous professional organizations, including the American Institute of CPAs, the Institute of Internal Auditors and Leadership Greater Washington (Class of 2005). She serves or has served on several boards, including Trinity University, the D.C. Chamber of Commerce, the D.C. Youth Orchestra and the American Heart Association.
She holds a B.S. in accounting and finance from Virginia State University.
