New Health Care Center Opens in Capitol Heights, Md.

Prince George’s County, Md. became a little healthier with the March 6 opening of the new Global Vision Community Health Center in Capitol Heights.

In attendance at a news conference and ribbon-cutting event were Maryland Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown, Prince George’s County Executive Rushern L. Baker III, Capitol Heights Mayor Kito James, along with members of the county council, members of the county’s health department, local residents, and representatives of the non-profit organization Global Vision Foundation.

“We’re not just politicians,” Brown said. “We really do care about our residents.”

The Global Vision Community Health Center is the first of five patient-centered medical homes set to open in Prince George’s County.

Funding for the center was provided through the state’s Health Enterprise Zone program, which was championed by Brown and administered by the Maryland Community Health Resources Commission and the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. The initiative aims to positively impact the health outcomes of Prince George’s County residents who are medically underserved.

“Usually residents have to travel to D.C. or travel a long way to get to their primary healthcare provider, and now that is changing,” Baker said.

With a mission of “Care for One Person, One Family and One Community at a Time,” Global Vision Community Health Center will provide primary care to infants, children and adults.

“God is so good,” said Toyin Opesanmi, the center’s medical director. “He did this and nobody can take away his glory. A healthy community is a wealthy community. Thank you Prince George’s County for allowing us [here].”

The Global Vision Community Health Center is located in Kingdom Square Mall, formerly known as Hampton Mall. The center will be open Monday through Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and will accept all health insurance, including Medicare and Medicaid.
