Anybody who wanted cream of crab soup and wandered by the Timonium Fairgrounds a little too late March 23 left disappointed.
For the seventh year in a row, the cream of crab soup was the big hit for St. Vincent de Paul’s annual Empty Bowls fundraiser.
This year’s crowd topped the 2,000-person mark for an event that included face painting and jewelry making for children and raffles for adults. But most come for the food and a chance to help fight hunger in the area.
Teresa Eaton, event director, said, “Empty Bowls is hugely successful in the community as a very fun family friendly event that allows people to contribute at a very small ticket cost to help their community members in need.”
St. Vincent de Paul serves an estimated 50,000 people every year, according to officials of the non-profit group.
The event’s sponsors include WBAL-TV, BGE, Food Lion, and Redstart Creative. Soups at the event were provided by over twenty restaurants and catering services such as, Atlantic Caterers, Boheme Café, and Miss Shirley’s.
