BGE Relocation will snarl traffic

In order to accommodate the construction of the casino in Baltimore City, Baltimore Gas and Electric Company (BGE) will be relocating underground utilities on and in the vicinity of Russell St. This will require roadwork and lane closures in segments along Russell St. between Haines St and Worcester St., including the center lanes of Russell St. in both the northbound and southbound directions. BGE expects to begin roadwork on Russell St. on Oct. 14, 2013 and estimates work on Russell St. will continue in segments through July 2014.

Additionally there will be roadwork on Haines St., Bayard St., Worcester St. and Warner St.

BGE will be working closely with the developer of the casino, Baltimore City and nearby businesses, including the Greyhound Bus Lines station on Haines St., to minimize disturbances to traffic patterns and the surrounding area as much as possible.

All lane closures will be clearly marked and managed. BGE will be scheduling work during non-rush hours, Monday-Saturday, and suspending work during games and special events at M&T Bank Stadium. BGE reminds area motorists and pedestrians to be cautious in and around utility work zones for their own safety and the safety of BGE employees and contractors.
