Jody B. Jones, formerly of Allen, Md., is the new drum major at Morgan State University in Baltimore. Son of community activist Jacqueline Banks Jones and Linwood Jones, Jody obtained this coveted spot after being a leader in the percussion section for years as well as being the only upright and guitar bass player for the MSU Jazz Ensemble which plays regionally and internationally.
In his new leadership role, Jody leads the MSU Magnificent Marching Machine band during the sideline performances as well as during the always highly anticipated half-time show. Jody is a music major and plans to continue his career in music.
Jody got his start on Maryland's Eastern Shore at Fruitland Intermediate School where he learned to play the snare drum using a drum pad. At Bennett Middle, he made the All-Shore Band as a percussionist and held first chair for years. He was the only ninth-grader to make the drum line at James M. Bennett High School. After he transferred to Dunbar High school in Baltimore, Jody was the drum player for the highly acclaimed Dunbar Jazz Band under the direction of Charles Funn.
