Kayla Pasteur, 14, formerly of Ernest Everett Just Middle School in Mitchellville, Md., completed a week-long summer program, July 14-20, at Tuskegee University School of Veterinary Medicine's Veterinary Science Training, Education and Preparation (VET STEP). VET STEP is designed to introduce minority 9th – 12th graders to the exciting careers in veterinary medicine.
Kayla's team came in first place for their PowerPoint presentation on the four compartments of a cow's stomach. She also was one of four who tested 95 percent or better out of 20 students.
Honor students came from as far as New Mexico to participate in this Tuskegee University program that has been in existence for over 20 years. It enhances study skills, encourages self-motivation and provides academic support and reinforcement.
