Kettering Baptist Church Hosts Check-Up/Church Picnic

Kettering Baptist Church in Upper Marlboro, Maryland hosted a Check-Up/Church Picnic event, August 10 for church members and the public. Usually the “Check-Up” and “Church Picnic” events are done separately, but this year the church decided to combine the two and invite the public to come out and fellowship with them.

During this occasion, KBC members and the rest of the public, had the opportunity to receive vehicle, spiritual and health check-ups free of charge. The church also provided free food, pony rides, car washes, games, and music and entertainment.

As thousands came out throughout the day, they enjoyed the various activities the church had. KBC Pastor Sterling III, who has been senior pastor for 13 years now, knows how important it is to keep the body healthy. “There are some people that don’t even know they have health issues,” Sterling said. KBC provided blood drives, health check-ups and information for screenings for health.

Sterling distributed free backpacks to children, containing school supplies. The church has an annual “Backpack Drive,” in which they go out to various elementary/middle schools and give out 500 backpacks to students. This upcoming school year will be the sixth year.

KBC has been around since 1969. The church follows the mission statement W.I.F.E., ministering through Worship, Instruction, Fellowship, and Evangelism.

KBC plans on moving to a new location by the end of 2014. The church’s new location will be a 27-acre lot, three miles south of the route 301 and Pennsylvania Avenue intersection. The new building will hold 1500 members in the sanctuary and have about 20 classrooms for multiuse. The site work for this has already begun and construction will start September/October 2013.

Sterling thought it was a “great turnout.” Sterling told the AFRO “This event was primarily held to demonstrate our love for Christ. We are showcasing Jesus Christ and his love.”
