Senior guard Tiara Knotts scored a game-high 15 points to lead four South Carolina State players in double-digit scoring as the visiting Lady Bulldogs defeated Morgan State, 83-74, in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) game at Hill Field House in Baltimore on Jan. 12
Junior guard Ashley Clarke added 14 points and tied Knott with a game-high eight rebounds. Senior guard Trinese Fox came off the bench to score 11 points, while sophomore forward Persephone Goodwin finished with 10 points and seven rebounds for S.C. State, which has won three straight over Morgan State.
The loss was a season-high sixth straight defeat for the Lady Bears (4-11, 1-1 MEAC), who have lost their last two home contests.
Morgan State was led by senior guard Bianca Jarrett, who scored 14 points, while junior guard Whitney Southerland came off the bench to score 13 points. Sophomore forward/center Amarah Williams added eight points and a team-high seven rebounds.
Senior guard Moneshia Davis finished with a team-high four assists to go with six points and six rebounds. Davis also added a steal, giving her 142 for her career and moving her into a tie for eighth with former Lady Bear and current assistant coach Brittany Dodson.
South Carolina State (10-4, 2-1 MEAC) shot 44 percent (30 of 68) from the field and went 18 of 30 (60 percent) from the free throw line. S.C. State also held a 51-41 rebounding advantage over Morgan State.
The Lady Bears only hit 23 of 65 shots (35 percent) from the floor and connected on 20 of 33 from the charity stripe.
Morgan State will host Savannah State on Jan. 14 at 5:30 p.m. at Hill Field House. Savannah State dropped a 57-53 decision at Coppin State on Jan. 12.
