Louisville Ends N.C. A&T Aggies’ Historical Season

(Updated 4/22/2013) Just days after claiming a first ever NCAA Tournament win, the North Carolina A&T Aggies had their greatest season in school history come to an end as they fell to the No. 1 NCAA seed Louisville Cardinals, 79-48 in the second round of the Midwest Region on March 21 in Lexington, Kentucky.

The No. 16 seed Aggies were simply too outmatched by the top seeded Cardinals. Louisville used an aggressive full court defensive press and trap to suffocate the Aggies’ offense and quickly built a double-digit lead.

With the Aggies struggling to even get a shot off, the Cardinals eventually pushed their lead up to 30 points and kept it there for most of the game.

Only one player for N.C. A&T scored in double digits as freshman Bruce Beckford scored 12 points. Aggies junior guard Lamont Middleton, the team’s leading scorer this season, struggled shooting, making just 3-of-12 shots for nine points.

Louisville junior guard Russ Smith led the game with 23 points while sophomore teammate Will Blackshear followed with 12 points.

Louisville now advances on to the round of 32 to face the winner of Colorado State vs. Missouri on March. 23.
