The Howard University Bison football team held an impressive 11-point second-half lead over non-conference opponent Eastern Michigan, but eventually gave up the lead and lost its season opener, 34-24, on Aug. 31 in Ypsilanti, Mich.
Howard junior quarterback Greg McGhee engineered two scoring drives, throwing a touchdown pass and rushing for a touchdown that pushed the Bison ahead, 24-13 in the third quarter.
But Eastern Michigan running back Bronson Hill fired back with back-to-back touchdowns, jump-starting a comeback run of 21 unanswered points, 14 scored in the fourth quarter, to give his team the win.
McGhee completed 19-of-32 passes for 182 yards, threw a touchdown but had two interceptions. He also ran for a team-high 93 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries. The sophomore running back also ran for 82 yards and a touchdown for Howard.
Bison sophomore receiver Jonathan Booker caught a game-high six catches for 76 yards and a touchdown.
Hill led Eastern Michigan with 28 carries for 101 yards.
Howard will face Morehouse in the AT&T Nation's Football Classic at on Sept. 7 RFK Stadium in Northeast Washington, D.C.
