NORFOLK, Va.– The Howard University Lady Bison basketball team overpowered the Lady Aggies of North Carolina A&T State University 55-42 to reach the Mid-East Athletic Association (MEAC) Tournament finals March 15 at Scope Arena in Norfolk, Va.

N.C. A&T held the lead until the 12:04 mark of the first half, reaching a game-high six point lead. But a three-pointer by senior forward Kara Smith changed the contest and put the game in Howard's favor. Smith's effort sent Howard to a seven-point lead in the first half, fueling HU's halftime 22-20 lead.

North Carolina A&T outscored Howard early in the second half, opening a five-point lead. Nevertheless, the Lady Bison (20-10 overall record, 12-4 MEAC) revved up its offense and defense for a 13-point win, shooting 70 percent from the free throw line and 48 percent from the field to advance to the MEAC finals, facing Hampton (27-5 overall record, 16-0 MEAC) for the championship.

In the victory, Howard senior forward Saadia Doyle clinched her tenth double-double of the season with 27 points –including two three-point goals—and 10 rebounds, capping her performance with seven of eight free throws.

Howard senior forward Kara Smith finished with 11 points, while senior guard
Adelle Walton gathered nine points from her six three-point attempts. Senior guard Cheyenne Curley-Payne distributed nine assists, as senior forward Nicole Deterville blocked three Lady Aggie shots.
