Baltimore’s Dunbar Completely Dominates Prince George’s Forestville in First Round of Playoffs

BALTIMORE–Dunbar Poets head coach Lawrence Smith always tells his players to focus on one game at a time and to never look too far ahead in the schedule. But the Poets couldn’t help but look forward to next week as they were en route to a 51-0 victory over Forestville Academy of Prince George’s County, Md. in the first round of the Maryland regional playoffs tournament on Nov. 9 at Dunbar’s brand new football field in Baltimore, Md.

It was complete domination for the Poets, who led 38-0 at halftime. Dunbar junior quarterback William Crest tossed a couple of touchdown passes in the second quarter, including a 25-yard score that had pushed the lead to 30-0 with seven minutes until halftime. A touchdown run pushed the lead up to 38-0 right before the break.

The second half was no different as Dunbar continued to control the game offensively while denying any scoring chances on defense. They went on to score 13 more points as the game clock continuously ran due to the mandatory mercy rule.

“We know what time of the year it is,” Coach Smith told his players after the game.

“It’s time to take care of business. It’s winning time. Let’s go show them what we do.”
Dunbar advanced onto the second round, where they’ll face fellow Baltimore City team Forest Park on Nov. 16.
