McKinley Tech Breezes By Roosevelt High in Halloween Shutout

The McKinley Tech Trainers of Washington, D.C. performed like Halloween monsters at the McKinley Tech Stadium football field on Oct. 31, shutting out the Roosevelt Roughriders 38-0.

McKinley’s defense was a scary sight for Roosevelt, and the multiple fumbles and interceptions the Trainers caused set the tone for the blowout. The Roughriders hurt their own cause with missed opportunities, including an interception return by senior defensive Kelvin Malloy that was stopped one-yard short of a touchdown to end the first half.

Although it was Senior Night, McKinley’s freshman running back Danzel Brown was a dominating presence on the field. Brown, who averages a team-high 59 yards per game, had two scoring runs in the second quarter. Seniors De’Marko Moorer, Anthony Carthen and junior Shaquante Simms also had rushing touchdowns.

The matchup marked the sixth-straight win for McKinley Tech, all of which were shutouts. It was also the second time Roosevelt failed to score against McKinley this season; they lost 44-0 on Sept. 27. The lopsided victory solidified the Trainers’ spot at the top of the DCIAA Stripes League.

McKinley head coach Alimamy Kallay said his team won’t get too comfortable, despite their recent success.

“We’ve come a long way. In the past 20 years, we’ve been a doormat for a lot of teams,” said Kallay. “Every game is 1-0. Every game is very important. They’re definitely motivated.”

With the win, McKinley Tech improved its overall record to 6-4. They will face Eastern High School on Nov. 8 in their last regular season game.

Roosevelt’s overall record dropped to 3-7; they will host Bell High School on Nov. 8.
