Ravens Use Defense to Beat Up Jets

Veteran cornerback Corey Graham snagged a career-high two interceptions as the Baltimore Ravens used defense to dominate the New York Jets in a 19-3 win on Nov. 24 in Baltimore, Md.

New York led only once all game when they went ahead, 3-0, early in the first quarter. The Ravens, however, then went on to score 19 unanswered points, including seven points earned from a 66-yard touchdown bomb from quarterback Joe Flacco to receiver Jacoby Jones.

The Flacco-to-Jones connection pushed Baltimore ahead 19-3 late in the third quarter, pushing the lead out of reach for the Jets who struggled offensively all game.

Jets rookie quarterback Geno Smith was harassed by the Ravens’ defense. Smith was sacked three times and was picked off twice by Graham. He finished completing just 9 of 22 passes for 127 yards.

The Ravens’ offense struggled a bit early in the game, settling for field goals instead of touchdowns. They eventually struck gold when Flacco found Jones for the deep touchdown pass. Flacco completed 17 of 26 passes for 273 yards, one touchdown, one interception and a 97.1 passer rating. Jones led the Ravens with four catches for 103 yards.

Ray Rice once again struggled running the ball. He finished with just 30 yards on 16 carries, 1.9 yards per carry.

More Game Notes:
Former Ravens star safety Ed Reed returned to Baltimore to face his former team for the second time this season. Reed played against the Ravens as a member of the Houston Texans earlier this season. He signed with the Jets two weeks ago after being cut by Houston. Reed was burned by Jones during the 66-yard touchdown pass.

Ravens backup quarterback Tyrod Taylor played several snaps today. The Ravens utilized his speed during the read-option run plays to help the Ravens run the ball more effectively against the Jets’ defense.

Next Up:
Baltimore advanced to a 5-6 record and will next face their arch nemesis Pittsburgh Steelers (5-6 record) on Thanksgiving night in Baltimore, Md.
